Cement over laminate counters

The kitchen had very damaged laminate counters and a heavy wood paneling on the walls. A complete tear-out wasn’t in the budget, so I puttied, sanded, and painted the walls. Then I moved on to cover the counters with cement. I troweled it on in several thin coats, sanding between coats (roughed up the counters first by cutting them with a knife — that was fun!). I sanded by hand until it was completely smooth. Then I sealed it with multiple coats of polyurethane. It’s been over a year, and it’s holding up beautifully!
